Kitchen In!

The kitchen went in with basically no real problems. The stone we upgraded to 40mm and to go down both sides of the bench and very pleased we did. We also redesigned the island bench to have hidden cupboards on the side facing the dining.

There is a feature laminex above the fridge and on the bench and the remaining kitchen is white.

We upgraded the door to our Butlers pantry to be glass and wood and that will be stained in the dark colour as per windows.

We have had Metricon delete the appliances and i have purchased my own. Got a Miele dishwasher and Ilve oven and cooktop.

bathrooms Started

No Waterproofing on the floor and the wrong tiles on the bath hob. at this stage the floor tiles that were down ( done badly) have been pulled up.

Master bathroom. Again tiles on floor were done really badly. They were ripped up and then the tiler was supposed to wait for waterproofing on the bathhob and floor to be done. Instead the idiot went and put the wrong tiles on the bathhob in this room also. Shower in correct tiles, not great job and no lines match up! made me very angry.

The bathrooms have been a major problem in this house. Everyone building with any builder be WARNED!

Most builders don't waterproof your flooring in the upstairs bathrooms. They waterproof the bath hob and the shower however as most people have no idea about the build process or have access to the house at this stage they dont' realise that builders don't do it. When you have a bathroom upstairs and the flooring is wood you need to have a waterproof membrane to ensure that over time water doesn't get through the tiles and rot out the floor.

So Metricon didn't do it and started tiling the floors. We picked them up on it and then made them pull up all the floors. Then they started to tile the bathhobs without ensuring that there was a seal from the bath hob to the floor - Bath tiles had to come off and well actually they ended up pulling out the entire bathhob. What made this process so frustrating for us was that we told our supervisor many times and even before the grouting had been done he had a chance to fix it but the tiler just continued!!! We really had quite possibly the worst tiler Metricon could find and mind my french but we were dealing with a pack of idiots!

To add icing to the cake they tiled the hobs in the wrong tiles and then none of the tiles were level - over the last few months our bathrooms have been ripped up in parts now 3 times and our balcony tiles have also been ripped up 3 times ! We are not dealing with the bightest tools in the shed that is for sure.

We spent a lot of money on upgrades in the bathrooms and were quite angry and added a lot of stress to our lives however the result while not perfect is not to bad. They will look nice once i can get in and give it a good clean.

Below are some photos of the progress over the last few months

December /January Photos Progress.

Render on pillars has been done. We are not sure about the colour and may change it.

Back view of the second story and the alfresco area. We lowered all the side windows to the floor and added in the big feature window in the stairwell.

Update on the progress

Well has been a long time since I have felt positive enough to post. To say that the last few months dealing with Metricon has been a pleasure would be a long way from the truth.

November we were told that the house should be finished before christmas and with everything on track and booked in we should have hand over. Well it is now March and we still don't have the keys.

December we spent most weeks wondering what the hell was going on - nothing! Our site supervisor fell off the planet and we didn't hear from him for a number of weeks before christmas. Painting started in a positive way but that ground to a stop a couple of weeks before christmas as well.

I will put photos up hopefully in sequence so you can see how it progressed over the last few months. As it stands today we are finished except for a number of quality issues. I am not sure how metricon make any money as they have made so many mistakes on our house and not just the one time. They don't learn from there mistakes like most people. Luckily they stuffed up our back doors and were not able to lock the house up so we were able to get in for most of the time, hence being able to pick up a lot of the mistakes they were making. Some of them very large.

To everyone building watch them very closely - they tell a lot of lies and basically tell you what they think you want to hear all the time.

With all the frustration we have finally got most things fixed that we had to fight for and the end result is a very nice house. Just now looking forward to the keys.

Now for some photos.....

Builders there all weekend!

Builders working hard over the weekend to move the job along quicker which is great to see. They were working on installing all the internal doors and arch's around the windows and doors internally. Really starting to look more finished! Showers have also had the base's sealed in both bathrooms.

Kitchen and Bathroom

Island bench - gap for the dishwasher and sink. We are having stone benches that also go down each side of the island bench. Cupboards over the fridge we added in as an extra upgrade. Purchased our dishwasher this weekend which we will put in ourselves.

Island Bench - cupboards facing the dining room. The stone will hang over so that stools can go under the bench.

Stove will sit in gap - cabinets will be installed above and these wont have handles. We have opted to not have any handles put on by metricon and will install ourselves after handover as we didn't really like any on offer.

Cabinets In! 5th November

Went around to the house on Thursday night to bump into our SS working quite late. Was great timing in that we got to run through a few minor issues we wanted fixed before they continued on much further. One in particular was a issue we picked up this week - Our laundry was 30mm out in width and therefore the gap that would be left in the laundry for the washer and dryer wouldn't be enough! leaving us with a major issue.

friday the cabinets were being installed so best case was to get them to cut down the cupboard at installation! Luckily this wasn't such a big deal and was done. Benches and sink also went in on Friday.

Progress made today was visually more then any other day - Plasterer did the last sand in preparation for painting, painter kept working on staining the doors and windows, bathrooms, laundry and kitchen all installed, bench in pantry installed.

The good news was that our SS is confident that with the current plan that we will be in before Christmas!!! While we are not holding our breath it is looking possible especially after the weekend.
